I did my best to notice
when the call came down the line
up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
and sometimes I get nervous
when I see an open door

close your eyes, clear your heart

cut the cord
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer
are we human or are we dancer

pay my respects to grace and virtue
send my condolences to good
give my regards to soul and romance
they always did the best they could
and so long to devotion, you taught me everything I know
wave good bye, wish me well

you gotta let me go
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer
are we human or are we dancer

will your system be alright
when you dream of home tonight
there is no message were receiving
let me know is your heart still beating

are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer

you’ve gotta let me know
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer
are we human
or are we dancer

are we human or are we dancer
are we human or are we dancer

Hi, I am new. This is my frist post …lol.
      say hi to all.

    2. lala says:

its not dancer; its DENSER !!!

ps: i know all there songs

      • lala is lolo says:

it’s all “their” songs (not there) you idiot.

      • adam says:

lala you dont know all their songs because i have the album with the lyrics in it and its dancer….

the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging comment made by Hunter S. Thompson, where he stated America was raising “a generation of dancers”.[10] In an interview with Rolling Stone, Flowers said that he was irritated over the confusion about the lyrics

        that was on there website…

a generation of dancers is still a generation of humans is what i think his point is…

and also he makes alot of cracks in the song at how hard dancers train and push themselves….

    3. Joel says:

You all doesn´t understand the really sense of the text.Sorry, but you have to seek more deeply and exactly. It isn´t so superficial…

    4. hhahapapaya says:

i have an opinion. by the way its confirmed that its “are we human or are we dancer”. it might mean whether we are really humans or just puppets, dancing to the strings that bind us.

      ——–
“and im OOOOOOOON my KNEEEES begging for a blowjob!”

    5. Ogram says:

I agree – these lyrics make me think of being with my brother when he was dying. xx

    6. Entertainer says:

I actually believe it’s dancer not denser. I have a grudge by ‘Dancer’ they might mean that people being used by the government (long story). So they might mean: Are we independent individuals, or are we just to be used by others? Are we completely guided by others or our own morals?

All in all, this is my favorite song by The Killers. I will remember it for years to come!

    7. BOB says:

i think its ” are we human or are we denser” meaning are they ordinary or more better than humans.

    8. TheRightAnswer says:

Look it up people! It’s a dance song! Beat goes with the chorus! Are we human, or are we dancer? In other words…get up and dance to the song. Gosh.

    9. GOAT247 says:

Either way it should be plural (dancers not dancer)

    10. Marcus Inniss says:

Illuminati, new world order…true meanings of the lyrics:

I did my best to notice (I notice the system and I am doing my best to make you aware too)
when the call came down the line (for example.. the way its fed through the media in order to condition us)
up to the platform of surrender (so we are at the point of surrender where they have total control over us)
I was brought but I was kind (they sucker us in unknowingly)
and sometimes I get nervous (they try to install fear into us)
when I see an open door (if I try to exposee them)

close your eyes, clear your heart (so they can tap into our subconsious minds and condition us unknowingly as they please)

cut the cord ( we must break free)
are we human or are we dancer (we are free humans not puppets/slaves to them)
my sign is vital, my hands are cold (what I’m exposing to you is vital to prevent “the new world order”. They want us like them: Cold Blooded Reptiles)
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer (i’m looking for a way to set us all free by exposing them)
are we human or are we dancer (we are human, with our own individual thoughts and feelings. And dancer refers to being like one of many, all the same with no individuality: SLAVES to the “New World Order”!
The phrase is asking if we are free with our own thoughts or are we restricted to alike.)

pay my respects to grace and virtue (I have love for the REAL humans, not the reptilians that control us)
send my condolences to good (the people that think for themselves)
give my regards to soul and romance (because humans souls, USE THEM!)
they always did the best they could (to destroy out souls)
and so long to devotion, you taught me everything I know (I am no longer under your evil spell!)
wave good bye, wish me well (I am free, YOU can be too!!!)

you gotta let me go (They have no choice but to let us go, now we ALL KNOW!)
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer
are we human or are we dancer

      will your system be alright
when you dream of home tonight
there is no message were receiving
let me know is your heart still beating (I left the last verse for you to do…)

are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer

      you’ve gotta let me know
are we human or are we dancer
my sign is vital, my hands are cold
and I’m on my knees looking for the answer
      are we human
      or are we dancer

are we human or are we dancer
are we human or are we dancer

they are called the Killers because they want ot kill the system!

    11. Lary Huls says:

Well if the point of art is to make you think and react, this song succeeds in spades. Actually only about 1/3 of those responders were doing much thinking. Poetry is a metaphor to bring you out of your box. It’s what you see in it, not whether you understand the Hunter Thompson quote or not.
Shiva dances the creation of the world. I’ve always thought the question was about whether we are being a creative force in the world. Seems like The Killers are.
Then again, “densers” makes NO sense, fan club or not.

    12. rashaad says:

Getting excited about an update. For too long now have I had the need to get started on my own blog.

    13. Steveo says:

Hello – to add even more confusion I spoke with someone from the Killers fan club and I’ve now confirmed that it is DENSERS….as in self-absorbed people who have no awareness of the world condition or of the welfare of others. As explained to me, being human is literal……compassionate, etc.

      Please disregard previous post.

      PEACE OUT ALL YOU HUMANS!!!!

    14. Steveo says:

Clearing up any confusion, the lyric is dancer, not denser. It’s based on a quote from a journalist, and the meaning of the song is explained on the killer’s webpage. You can also check the lyrics on their webpage if you don’t believe me.
Aside from that, does anyone else think the killers lyrics hae degenerated a bit? This song, which is pretty confusing and full of odd words, and also their I got soul but I’m not a soldier is not very well worded

    15. Matt says:

Sorry, I stand corrected. It’s densers.

    16. Matt says:

      I think they answered it

      we are dancers

    17. Zack says:

Hey “ThatGuy”…….you know the guy who everyone remembers in school as the classroom nerd who liked weird music and had no dates? The guy who read blogs then replied with grammatical corrections? The loner who downloaded music illegally because he was unemployed? The guy with no-life and no friends? Hey…….you are “ThatGuy”

Candy-assed Jabroni, your weakness makes me sick.

      • anonymous says:

hey zack? chill. don’t hate on thatguy because you know he’s right and you don’t feel like thinking long and hard enough to understand the meaning of this song. peace. love. killers.

    18. ThatGuy says:

so the only thing i have to add is to Zack, who felt it necessary to write an extremely long and drawn-out comment about why this song makes no sense. I like the fact that he at least tries to sound intelligent by throwing in a couple of prefixes; psuedo and such, however perhaps you should use that spell check a little more…the wrong “there” elementary mistakes really. It was a good effort though. Oh, and if you really think that I waste money on my music, think again. there are a billion programs to get mine free, and if you want to challenge my morals on that, then save it for a different forum please. well, that pretty much sums up my issues in life, so God Bless, and Hate not thy neighbor. there needs to be more love in this crazy world! adios everyone

ps… if you are going to trash-talk someone, especially a music group like the killers, just remember that nobody ever saw your a$s up on a stage.

    19. Na Leo O Ke Kai says:

A spectre is haunting the music industry — the spectre of DANCERS. Are we HUMAN, or do we move in the same patterns like mindless FOOLS??!!!! Like brainless pieces of turd. All the powers of the old guard have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: The Killers and Iggy Pop, The Ramones and the Sex Pistols and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Pitbull and T-Pain.
Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as sell outs by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of commercialism, against the the crap known as folk music, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?
Two things result from this fact:
      I. DANCERS is already acknowledged by all powers to be itself a power.
II. It is high time that slightly undernourished raggamuffins should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their music, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of THE KILLERS with a story of the group itself. This can be cone either in a public forum or at a well known gathering place such as Starbucks or McDonald’s if need be.

    20. Manfred Mann says:

I meant “dose” (not “does”). Sorry for the typo. Also, “Goober” should have been capitalized.

      Thanks!
