Whoever published these lyrics got several parts wrong. LISTEN TO THE SONG PEOPLE…IT’S NOT THAT HARD!!!
It’s “we’re dead if they KNEW”
“So close your eyes, ESCAPE THIS TOWN FOR A LITTLE WHILE”
Another correction is “Romeo save me, “THEY’RE TRYING TO TELL ME HOW TO FEEL”
Another: There is no “so” in the line
“This love is difficult, but it’s so real” The “SO” should not be there.
Correct is “This love is difficult, but it’s real”
It’s missing “And said…” after the line
“He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring…(and said)”
I believe the correct line is
“I talked to your dad, GO pick out A (not THE) white dress”
and last but not least…Taylor’s songs have a tendency to end the EXACT same way they begin, therfore the correct line would be…
“We were BOTH young when I first saw you”
Taylor also does several “Oh’s” but I never ONCE heard a “yes”
Remind me not to visit this page for lyrics…I guess I’ll make my own since it seems that so many people who LOVE the song, can’t even get the lyrics correct.

Okay, seriously? This song is moronic. It’s cliche and Swift pulls in references that she clearly doesn’t fully understand. First you’ve got Romeo and Juliet, who are the the poster children of “true love,” but they have an awful ending. If you’re alluding to a work of fiction, you’re alluding to the entire thing. Apparently she wants their marriage to end in mutual suicide.
Secondly she uses “Scarlet Letter,” in reference to HERSELF. No one wants to be called a Scarlet Letter, that was the symbol of ultimate shame for a woman. She’s calling herself an adulteress, and it makes her sound like she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

The scarlet letter is not a Shakespearean play, it was a book written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, hundreds of years after Shakespeare’s time.
The protagonist, Hester Prynne, wears a scarlet letter A on her bodice (that’s the top part of a dress) that stands for “adulteress”, which means she has sex with a man that is not her husband, and she had a little girl, Pearl.
I’m guessing that means that Taylor, in the song, was supposed to have been “intimate” with her Romeo. Back in medieval times, if a girl was caught with another boy alone, a hasty marriage would usually follow.
