There are tooooo many females in this R&B game for some of them to never come up with some of the same themes in music. How many females have we heard talk about cheating men? How many females have we heard talk about how they should have cheated on they men cuz they men cheated on them already or cuz they men accused them, and how many females have we heard talk about how much their in love or wanna be love or can’t wait to be in love or fell out of love (in my mind – heather headley, story of 2 – ashanti, always be my baby – mariah carey, i need a love – kelly rowland)
Come on. Beyonce’s status is passed competition. And this isn’t even to take away from Ciara, cuz she’s a consistent artist, even if Beyonce saw fit to pick ideas from other artists, there enough of her PEERS (artists who have longevity – ie consistent thriving talent) in this game that she doesn’t need to pick from an artist who’s just making a real name for herself.

Yeah themes can be original (and it does help sometimes), but the melodies, the lyrics themselves, the concepts behind song structure, that’s what keeps music fresh. Jazz all over and music from the 70’s, 60’s, and 50’s (and i’m sure before and after that) almost always ended up taking the same themes, but the ones that are known as the greats created the bigger and better music (again, not taking away from Ciara, cuz I love her songs too).

“It’s not like she wrote it”, but bet you when the writing credits are released her name’ll be somewhere in there. Beyonce has a history of putting her name on songs she had absolutely no part in writing (and I’m not talking out of my ass on that one – I’ve worked with folks who’ve been involved in the business side of her career) and chances are she recorded this song before she even bothered ASKING if BC Jean wanted to grant her the rights to record and perform it (and she’s probably paying the poor girl practically nothing) … I think she’s amazingly talented, but there’s no denying that she and her father have gotten caught up in the hit-making machine that her career has become and they’ve stopped giving a damn about what’s right or wrong.
